Jo-Ryan Salazar The 31-year old skier from Steamboat Springs, Colorado made history by becoming the The USA, spearheaded by Spillane, Todd Lodwick, Brett Camerota and Bill DeMong were intent to finally end the curse that had plagued their campaign since the event started at Chamonix in 1924.
In the individual normal hill portion of the event, Lodwick finished second to Finland's Janne Ryynaenen with 127 points. Spillane earned 124.5 to finish fourth, Camerota 121.5 to finish 10th and DeMong 115.5 for 24th.
In the 10 km CC portion, a hotly-contested face between Lamy-Chappuis and Spillane resulted in the Frenchman from Missoula, Montana winning with a time of 25:47.1, a difference of 0.4 seconds. Lodwick ended up with a time of 25:14.6 to finish just outside the podium. DeMong completed the 10 km in 24:45.0 to finish sixth. Camerota finished the 10 km in 27:00.6 to finish 36th.
Overall, three of the top six in the Nordic Combined Individual event were from the USA, boosting the possibility of a strong performance in the Team NH/4 x 5 km event, which will be scheduled for February 23 at Whistler Olympic Park.
