WCM Claudia Munoz gladly accepted, this week, the invitation from the Texas Chess Association to participate in the prestigious "SUSAN POLGAR INVITATIONAL" to be held in Corpus Christi, June 20th. Claudia received the invitation based on having finished as the highest placed girl in the Texas Scholastic Championship in March.Claudia finished in 5th place out of 118 participants. The closest girl, in the elementary category, finished in 13th place.
Last year, Claudia automatically qualified to the "SUSAN POLGAR INVITATIONAL" by winning first place, undefeated, in the "SUSAN POLGAR OPEN 2008". However, her performance was not up to par, being that she arrived sick with fever to the event after a very good showing at the Pan American Youth in Argentina.
We believe that she will perform well in the qualifying phase.
