You have got to be kidding?
The U.S. National Soccer Team has owned the region's soccer world, just to get whooped by Costa Rica.
COSTA RICA!
No disrespect to Costa Rica, but how in the world did that happen?
True, professional soccer is relatively new in the United States but it has grown widely in American youth to the point that is has become the second most popular sport played in the under 18-age groups nationwide.
Corporate America has invested millions in the sport along with an evergrowing MLS league that has done very well against the Mexican teams in the Super League. However, it is unpardonable for the national team to have had such a poor result against this small non-top 50 soccer nation, according to FIFA's listing.
The lone goal that was scored by Team USA was a measily goal by Landon Donovan, or the results would have been 3-0, instead of the "honorable" 3-1.
Well boo-hoo.
Somebody better get their bottoms up off their benches or TEAM USA will miss the WORLD CUP OF SOCCER in South Africa - that simply would be uncool.
What does this chess blog have to do with soccer?
Everything is chess, you just don't know it.
